This communication will update, inform and advocate for families who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of experiencing homelessness. Here is the Family Promise Five for February 9, 2024.
Our mission is to help low-income families and families experiencing homelessness achieve sustainable independence
through a community-based response.
The Family Promise Five for February 9 are:
QUOTE OF THE WEEK
Thank you to Family Promise of Greater Wichita for our quote of the week.
"The problem with the world is that we draw the circle of our family too small."
- Mother Teresa
"What you are doing at family promise is making that circle bigger."
-Shane Claiborne
PHOTOS OF THE WEEK

1. PARTNERS PROVIDE . . .
A community response to homelessness
Mission
The Waukesha County Emergency Winter Overflow Shelter has entered its fourth month. Family Promise of Waukesha County manages the shelter in collaboration with Hebron Housing Services. The shelter serves both single men, women and families. We are grateful to the 25 partner organizations who are providing meals and hospitality. Our mission states that we offer a community response to homelessness. The reality is that homelessness is a complicated issue and will not be adequately addressed or solved until we recognize it impacts everyone in our community.
We are grateful to the following congregations, businesses, civic and community groups who are providing support to the Emergency Overflow Shelter. They have provided 1,295 hours of service. (Please note these are self-reported hours and likely to be much higher.)
POLL OF THE WEEK
Will you share some of your stories about your involvement in serving families experiencing homelessness over the 10 years of our existence?
Yes, I have had some wonderful experiences.
Yes, I am not sure what to pick.
Yes, but I am not a writer- can I tell someone my story?
No, this is not for me.
2. CLOSING DATE
Z’s closing is set for this month.
Mission
We are excited to learn that Zajanelle (Z) has a closing date set for the end of February for her new home. Z entered our shelter program in December 2022 and applied for a Habitat for Humanity home in spring 2023. When she was accepted we saw her stay as more than shelter and about transitioning into homeownership. This gave her a place to stay and an opportunity to prepare for her new home. The requirements of the program include taking a seminar on Financial Literacy and Home Ownership in addition to completing 200 hours of sweat equity. We are grateful to the volunteers who supported her in those hours by doing work on the home.
Moving from homelessness to homeownership in 14 months is a remarkable accomplishment. This will have a generational impact on her and her daughter. Z we are proud of you!
Z is in need of a washer and dryer. Would you consider providing a washer and/or dryer for her new home? Please contact Joe to discuss.

our supplies in the Apartment Shelter Program. Could you review the Amazon wishlist and donate some of the items that are used daily?
Items can be purchased directly from our wishlist and sent to our Day Center 139 E North Street Waukesha WI 53188. Thank you in advance for your support!
