What way would you like to see Family Promise celebrate our 10 year anniversary?

1. WE NEED YOUR HELP

Two ways you can volunteer with Family Promise of Waukesha County.

Volunteer

MAKE AND SERVE A MEAL

Family Promise of Waukesha County is seeking volunteers and partner organizations to prepare, serve and eat a meal with families who are in the Apartment Shelter Program. These meals are being held on Wednesday evenings starting at 5:30pm. They will be at the Day Center 139 E North Street Waukesha. Volunteers would be asked to bring the meal hot and ready to serve. Families are required to attend, unless they have a valid reason. Leftovers will be sent home with them.

Sign up to participate once or many times. It can be done as a couple, a family or a group. Volunteer groups are asked to arrive 20 minutes early for a brief orientation. Training is highly recommended and encouraged especially if you decided to serve more than one time. We are asking that at least one volunteer complete the online training. .

“TUESDAY GUYS”

The Tuesday Guys are a group of volunteers who complete light maintenance for Family Promise. This group originated from the Helping Hands group at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Oconomowoc. The group helps out a few Tuesdays a month. Some of the projects they have completed in the past:

  • paint an office

  • building file cabinets or desks

  • taking the vans for oil change or emission test

  • weeding/trimming

  • fix broken chairs

  • taking donations to the basement for sorting

  • fixing closet shelves in the Apartment shelter

They have truly been a blessing.  If you are interested in some light maintenance to keep our facilities functioning please email Joe Nettesheim

It is our preference that all volunteers who have client contact complete the online training. To complete the Family Promise online training use this link: https://family-promise.coassemble.com/unlock/fD6QseW

All volunteers who interact with clients must have a criminal record check completed.

2. MASTER LEVEL SPONSOR

Green Bay Packaging serve as presenting sponsor for Golf Outing

Fund Development/Community

Green Bay Packaging- Baird Display Division, located in Waukesha, will serve as the presenting sponsor for the 2024 Family Promise of Waukesha County Golf Outing! This is the fourth consecutive year that GBP is serving as the “Master Level Sponsor.” Green Bay Packaging has not only supported families experiencing homelessness financially, they are also one of our partners. In both the Community Shelter and the Emergency Overflow Shelter they provided meals and volunteers. During the holidays they helped with presents for families too! We are grateful for their partnership.

When asked why GBP supports Family Promise of Waukesha County, Vice-President and General Manager, Timm Rutkowski, stated,

Helping Families achieve sustainable independence! This core tenet of Family Promise resonates deeply with Green Bay Packaging.  When you give people the tools to succeed and then let them succeed…there is no greater feeling of accomplishment or satisfaction.  That’s what Family Promise does, here, in our community.  In our eyes, they are not a charity…but an incredibly passionate team who encourage, assist, coach, listen, teach and love.  What they do is hard, to support them, that’s easy.”

Helping families achieve sustainable independence could not happen without partners like Green Bay Packaging- Baird Display Division.

For the Golf Outing Green Bay Packaging Baird Display Division has also helped us share our message for the day. In 2023 to help us demonstrate what families must do if they are experiencing homelessness without shelter they designed a tent, couch and a car. Very impressive and impactful representations. Thank you GBP for the many ways you support families experiencing homelessness!

Thank you to all of the sponsors, golfers, and individuals who have registered to support the Family Promise Golf Outing.

We have created new ways to support the Golf Outing! Please consider sponsoring/underwriting components of the outing such as the lunch buffet, tent, or on the course beverages. The entire list is below or visit our webpage to register.

Staff

Welcome to Chiamaka Obinna, who will be joining our team as the new Intake Coordinator. Chiamaka on Tuesday, May 28. Chiamaka graduated from UW Stevens Point with a bachelor’s degree in sociology and criminal justice. Serving as an intern in London processing migrants was a key experience in demonstrating her ability to perform the duties associated with intake. Here is her note to the FP Waukesha Community.

Hello everyone! My name is Chiamaka Daniella Obinna, and I am so happy to be joining the team as the new intake coordinator! I am from Milwaukee WI, but attended the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point in which I graduated with my bachelors of science in both Sociology and Criminal Justice last December. I enjoy spending time with family and friends and being able to be involved in helping the community, and people around me. I love traveling and shopping and just being young and fun, but I also enjoy the peace and comfort I find in journaling and reading. I look forward to meeting you all and can’t wait to be a part of Family Promise by helping one family at a time.
