PHOTOS OF THE WEEK
1. WE NEED YOU! VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
We are seeking volunteers to help clean three apartments. These apartments are used to provide shelter to families experiencing homelessness.
It is a little unusual that all three are going through a transition at the same time, which increases our need for volunteers. If interested, please complete the form by clicking on the button below, or if you have questions please reach out to Maria: maria@familypromisewaukeshawi.org.
2. FAMILY PROMISE MERCHANDISE
Finally, it is available and just in time for the holidays! Family Promise of Waukesha County is now offering merchandise. Show your support for families experiencing homelessness by sporting Family Promise gear. You can purchase sweatshirts, t-shirts (long and short-sleeves), quarter-zips, fleece jackets, winter hats, and more!
Click on the link and shop online. When you order you choose whether you want the items delivered directly to you or you can pick them up at the Day Center in Waukesha.
The online store closes November 9. Orders will be shipped 2-3 weeks after the store closes.
3. HELP US MOVE IN
In November 2020 we received a grant from Help Us Move In, Inc. to support the Family Homelessness Prevention Program. Their focus is to create communities that have sustainable programs that will prevent children from becoming homeless. Their strategy is to provide a qualifying agency a $10,000 grant with the expectation that they will challenge the local community to provide $20,000. This grant is awarded in a two-year cycle. Plus they meet with a team from the agency that includes staff and board members. The support of HUMI has helped us to develop a sustainable prevention program. Over these two years we have served a total:
157 families,
321 children
$486 per child
Thank you to Help Us Move In, Inc. and all who have supported the Family Homelessness Prevention Program. We look forward to continuing to grow and expand this program to keep families and children housed.
4. THANK YOU: WAUKESHA COUNTY
COMMUNITY FOUNDATION
We are grateful to the Waukesha County Community Foundation for their recent support of our housing programs. We were informed this week that we will be receiving a grant of $7,500 to be used for our prevention and shelter programs. This generous gift will ensure that the Future Begins at Home for families and children.
The Waukesha County Community Foundation is a pool of permanent endowment and project funds created primarily by and for the people of Waukesha County to provide grant support to charitable organizations. The intent of the Foundation is to serve a broad spectrum of community needs. Organizations are eligible for funding every other year.
POLL OF THE WEEK
Do you plan on purchasing Family Promise Merchandise?
You bet, everyone should know that I support FP!
No, thank you.
Hoping someone will get it for me as Christmas gift.
5. HOLIDAY DECORATIONS
As our Apartment Shelter Program grows, we find ourselves in need of holiday decorations for each unit. You can help the families in shelter have a joy and cheer-filled holiday season by donating holiday decorations. Last year we did not have anything to decorate. With your help, we can change that in 2022.
